This year the local school October half term holidays fell in a slightly different place, meaning that our Friday market would be held after Halloween. The previous two years we have celebrated half term with pumpkins or other witchy/spooky fun, but this time a 'fireworks' theme seemed more appropriate.
Like our summer 'sunflower' themed competition, we asked producers and customers (of all ages) to cook, grow or make something inspired by fireworks or bonfire night. We had some awesome entries even though it had been a busy week for many of our producers (looking after children during half term, the extra cooking for Solihull Farmer's market etc). Kim's hand painted large glass jar with LED fairy lights inside stole the show and was the deserved winner.
We also had a festive autumnal flower arrangement in a hollowed out pumpkin, some rocket iced biscuits, catherine-wheel biscuits, a mini weaved wall hanging and a mixed media canvas.
As well as the seasonal display and competition, Kim organised some crafty activities for children on the stage. Kim is super inventive and creative and had the kids making spinning catherine wheels from paper plates, cupcake cases, wooden sticks and a split pin! The children were engrossed in their craft and loved it! (I think their Grandmas secretly loved it too!)
Next week (9th Nov) we will be opening at 9am for teas, coffee and cake (market opens 9:30 as usual), so why not drop in after the school run? It will be Christmas Tasting week and the 'Christmas shop' (full of crafty Christmas goodies) will be open for business for the first time 2018!
